U.S. House Condemns Rebirthing therapy
The House of Representatives has passed a non-binding resolution (397-0) condemning rebirthing therapy as dangerous and harmful, and urging states to enact laws banning it. The author of the measure was Rep. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., where in 2000 a 10-year was suffocated during a rebirthing treatment meant to help the child end her resistance to forming a loving relationship with her adoptive parents. Two therapists were sentenced to 16 years each in prison in the death, and Colorado has banned the therapy, from which four other children have died, according to the resolution.
