Mario Di Fiorino, M.D.

Mario Di Fiorino, M.D., psichiatra, dirige le riviste Psichiatria e Territorio (fondata nel 1984) e con Maria Luisa Figueira Bridging Eastern and Western Psychiatry (fondata nel 2003: annualmente un volume in inglese ed uno in russo) ed il sito web http://www.psyter.org. (in italiano, inglese, ucraino, russo, polacco e portoghese).  E’ nato a Forte dei Marmi (LU) nel 1953.  Medico, specialista in psichiatria (1982) e in neuropsichiatria infantile (1986). Primario del Dipartimento di Psichiatria dell’Ospedale della Versilia, insegna dal 2000 come professore a contratto nella scuola di specializzazione in Psichiatria di Pisa (attualmente Psicogeriatria e Psichiatria forense).  Dal 1989 per cinque anni ha tenuto un corso di Daseinsanalyse, la psicoterapia analitica esistenziale di L. Binswanger, nella Scuola di Criminologia clinica dell'Università di Modena.e dal 1990 ha insegnato per dieci anni nella scuola di specializzazione in Psichiatria della Università di Brescia (Psichiatria sociale). Autore di oltre centocinquanta pubblicazioni riguardanti argomenti di psicopatologia, ha curato: I disturbi da abuso di sostanze nella realtà territoriale (Psichiatria e territorio, 1984), Il compendio di psichiatria (con M. Betti, MaxMaur, 1992), Energia e significato (con L. Lami, MaxMaur, 1994). e Psichiatria e Igiene mentale (con M. Betti, Mc Graw Hill, 1997) e L’illusione comunitaria. La costruzione moderna delle “comunità artificiali” (Moretti & Vitali, 1998). E' in corso di stampa Alcoolismo e tossicomania. Una guida per pazienti e familiari.  Ha curato recentemente Pericoloso a sé e agli altri (2001).  Ha partecipato inoltre a volumi collettanei Le sette tra crisi personale e mutamento sociale (Editrice Elle Di Ci, 1993), Le sette religiose (Ancora Ed., 1996), e scritti in collaborazione da più Autori (con A. Bani e M. Miniati) L'aggressività. Aspetti clinici (Psichiatria e territorio, 1997; e Costretti ad amare con C. Caparesi, S. Kent, Psichiatria e territorio, 2001).  Le aree attuali di interesse riguardano la valutazione psicometrica e con il binding piastrinico dell'aggressività auto ed eterodiretta, la familiarità delle malattie mentali e le problematiche attinenti le sette religiose.In questa area ha curato i due volumi La persuasione socialmente accettata il plagio e il lavaggio del cervello (1990), pubblicando Se il mondo non finisce. Quando la profezia non si avvera (1996) (trad. inglese If the world does not end. Mario di Fiorino, M.D., was born in Forte dei Marmi (Italy) in 1953, graduated in the School of Medicine of the University of Pisa in 1978, where specialized in Psychiatry (1982) and Child Neuropsychiatry (1986).  Psychiatrist in chief in the Psychiatric Department of the Hospital of Viareggio (Italy) and since 2002 psychiatrist in chief in the Psychiatric Department of the new Hospital Versilia.  His scholarly contributions, comprising more than 150 articles and four edited books (about alcohol and drug abuse I disturbi da abuso di sostanze nella realtà territoriale (1984), cults and new religious movements, La persuasione socialmente accettata, il plagio e il lavaggio del cervello (1990) the relationship between energy and meaning, Energia e significato (con L. Lami, 1994), violence and suicide Pericoloso a sé e agli altri (2001), He has written a Compendium of psychiatry (written with M. Betti in 1992, a revised version Psichiatria e Igiene mentale has been published in 1996 for McGraw Hill Libri Italia) and several books Se il mondo non finisce: Quando la profezia non si avvera (1996), with an English translation: If the world does not end. When prophecy is false! (1999), and L’illusione comunitaria. La costruzione moderna delle “comunità artificiali” (Moretti & Vitali, 1998) with a part published in Ukrainian by Sviciado, 1998 and 2000.  He has published with Alfredo Gemignani, Il paziente violento La gestione medica della crisi, and with Giorgio Corretti, Perversioni Il lato oscuro dei comportamenti sessuali, 2004.
For the publisher Psichiatria e Territorio, he has edited, with his foreword, the Italian translation of the book of Roger Kennedy, La famiglia che abusa, la Psicoterapia e la Legge (2001). He has also edited, with his foreword the Italian translation of the book of Ivan Petrovic Pavlov Scritti Psichiatrici (2004) and of Isaac M. Marks Psicoterapia cognitiva (2004).  Finally he has published with the Canadian sociologist Stephen Kent (University of Edmonton) a book about the sexual abuses in a religious cult, The Family/Children of God Costretti ad amare. Saggi sui Bambini di Dio/The Family (Psichiatria e Territorio, 2002).  Referring to the traslation of rating scales, he has translated into Italian The staff observation scale (SOAS) of T. Palmstierna and B. Wistedt (1987) and the Past feelings and acts of violence (PFAV) of R. Pluthchik and H.M. van Praag (1990).  Founding editor of the journal, Psichiatria e Territorio (1984), which he still manages.. Since 1989 he has been a teacher in the post graduate school of Psychiatry at the University of Brescia (with lessons of Social psychiatry, psychopathology) and of Forensic Psychiatry in the University of Modena (a course for 5 years about the humanistic psychotherapy “Daseinsanalyse”)  Currently, he is contract lecturer in Forensic Psychiatry and in Psycho-geriatrics at the University of Pisa.  .Since 1996 he has been a visiting professor in Psychiatry at the University of Lviv.  For contacts: Mario DiFiorino: m.difiorino@usl12.toscana.it
