David Halperin, M.D.
Dr. David Halperin, Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Mt.
Sinai Medical School, died peacefully on December 3, 2003 at the age of 69. A
graduate of Harvard University and the University of Virginia Medical School,
Dr. Halperin, in addition to being a published poet, was the editor of
Psychodynamic Perspectives on Religion, Sect, and Cult, as well as many
articles on cults. A long-time board member of ICSA/AFF, Dr. Halperin
contributed a number of articles to Cultic Studies Journal, including
"The Dark Underside: Cultic Misappropriation of Psychiatry and Psychoanalysis"
and "Cults and Children: the Abuse of the Young" (with Arnold Markowitz,
M.S.W.).
