Patrick O’Reilly, Ph.D.,
is a clinical psychologist
in California and an
Assistant Clinical Professor
of Psychiatry at the
University Of California San
Francisco School Of
Medicine. In 2007 and 2008,
he was Coordinator of the
Condemned at San Quentin
State Prison, where he
oversaw the mental health
services of mentally ill
death row inmates. Dr.
O’Reilly was a postdoctoral
intern of the late Dr.
Margaret Singer and was Dr.
Singer’s teaching assistant.
He and Dr. Singer
collaborated on research
projects as diverse as The
Charles Manson Family, elder
financial abuse, biases in
psychological testing of the
elderly and street cons and
scams. Dr. O’Reilly has
lectured widely on the
subject of undue influence
to psychological
professional organizations,
to hospital medical staffs,
as Continuing Education Unit
seminars to psychologists
and social workers, and to
law enforcement agencies. He
has testified as an expert
witness in both capital and
noncapital court cases
involving thought reform,
cults and street and prison
gangs.
