Colleen Russell, LMFT,CGP, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFC29249) and a Certified Group Psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience. She specializes in cult (or High-Demand Group) recovery and education in addition to providing general counseling, psychotherapy, and consultations for individuals, couples, families, and groups in office and by phone. She is a former member of an “Eastern”/ “New Age” High Demand Group. Experiencing the power of groups, she has facilitated psychotherapy support groups for many years, including an on-going psychodynamic, educational Cult (or High-Demand Group) Recovery Support Group for former members and an 8-week Support Group for SGAs (Second Generation Adults, those born and/or raised in Cults or High-Demand Groups). As a Certified Group psychotherapist (CGP) she has met nationally accepted criteria of education, training and experience in group psychotherapy. Her theoretical orientations are psychodynamic, cognitive, relational, family systems, and humanistic, focusing on each client's personal needs. In addition to her involvement with the International Cultic Studies Association, she is a clinical member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, the San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group, the American Group Psychotherapy Association, and the Northern California Group Psychotherapy Society.
